BPM: Can you tell us about your journey into the world of dancehall music? What initially drew you to travel this career path?

Shawn Ice: My journey in the dancehall industry has been great. There are new things to learn daily, while staying focused with the knowledge I have acquired thus far to take me to the next level. I stick to my path because I have a unique style to my delivery, so I create my own lane and stay in it.

What initially drew me travel this career path was that my uncles and their friends used to deejay on a sound system in front of my house while I was growing up. I've always loved the energy, so I started to create my own little rhymes.

BPM: Beginning your music journey at the age of 14 must have been a unique experience. Can you share your thoughts on the support you received during those early days, and whether you felt that people took you seriously as a young artist?

Shawn Ice:  Over the years the support and love has been tremendous and that’s what has kept me going and aiming for more. Even though I started music at such a tender age, I was being booked for modeling and community events, so I was taken seriously because of the way I executed my craft.

BPM:  How do you feel your music has evolved since you first started, and what factors have contributed to this evolution?

Shawn Ice: The evolution is truly unbelievable! When I reflect on how far I've come, the progress in my delivery and voice control fills me with immense joy. The factors that I would say have contributed to this evolution are that I've developed tunnel vision focused solely on Shawn Ice.

BPM: Can you walk us through your typical creative process when crafting a new song? Where do you find inspiration for your lyrics and melodies?

Shawn Ice: To be honest, I have no specific system in place; it just comes to me naturally.

BPM: In 2019, you founded your artist development company, 3rdazzz Entertainment. The name is intriguing; could you shed some light on its significance? Additionally, could you tell us about the artists you're currently collaborating with under the umbrella of 3rdazzz Entertainment?

Shawn Ice: 3rdazzz is a group of individuals from a third-world country (Jamaica) that united to create an impact both locally and internationally.

BPM: During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, you entered a collaboration with dancehall artist I-Octane for the track “Times Like These,” after winning a live clash organized by Markus Wanted of Platinum Kids that featured artists from around the world. Can you share your mindset going into the clash – did you have a sense of confidence in winning? Additionally, what was the experience like collaborating with a prominent artist like I-Octane?

Shawn Ice: As soon as I saw the opportunity and decided to enter the competition, I knew I was the winner! Working with an established artist such as I-Octane was undoubtedly a great learning experience. This project also brought me more recognition in the dancehall scene.

BPM: What are some of the major milestones you've achieved in your career that you're particularly proud of?

Shawn Ice: The biggest milestone for me thus far was when I toured with Sizzla on his Caribbean/South America Tour back in 2018.

BPM: Beyond your music career, what are some of your other passions and interests that contribute to your overall creative expression?

Shawn Ice: One of my passions is watching concerts and music documentaries. Doing so has provided me with a better understanding of the entertainment industry and how I can further enhance my career.

BPM: Dancehall music has a passionate and diverse fan base. How do you connect with your fans through your music and performances?

Shawn Ice: I sing about topics they can relate to. During my performances, I engage with them so they feel as though they are a part of what I'm doing.

BPM: As an emerging artist I’m sure that throughout your career, you've undoubtedly encountered various challenges. Could you discuss some of these obstacles you've faced and elaborate on the strategies or mindset that helped you overcome them, ultimately propelling you to the level of success you've attained?

Shawn Ice: To be honest, low airplay is one of the many obstacles I'm currently facing. However, I will always remain positive and never allow it to get the best of me. I know that one day, I'll reap even greater benefits.

BPM: Social media has become such a powerful force in the music industry. How do you personally navigate its impact on your career and personal life? Are there ways in which you believe it has significantly shaped your journey as an artist?

Shawn Ice: Utilizing social media has enabled me to cultivate a stronger bond with my supporters. It has revealed the presence of genuine individuals who stand by Shawn Ice and the associated brand. Participating in Instagram Live sessions as an artist, I cherish the moments when my supporters share their creative ideas. Even the constructive critiques are valuable, as they drive me to continuously improve and excel.

BPM: Your recent visit to Jamaica for performances caught the attention of many. Could you share your observations about the support you received from the local audience there? How does the connection with your fans in Jamaica compare to your US fan base?

Shawn Ice: The energy in Jamaica was overwhelming! I was in awe, taken aback by the immense love and the incredible enthusiasm my supporters showered upon me, especially after not performing in Jamaica for such a long time. To be honest, I can't compare the connection – I receive love both in the US and Jamaica. This constant support only serves as a motivator for me to push even harder and deliver exceptional music.

BPM: Exciting rumors are circulating about your upcoming EP titled Entity. Can you provide us with a tantalizing glimpse into this upcoming project? Are there any intriguing collaborations in store? Could you also hint at the number of tracks we can expect to enjoy?

Shawn Ice: Entity EP comprises 7 tracks. I won't divulge too much; all I'll say is, stay tuned for a more mature Shawn Ice on this project. #Ladies

BPM: Beyond the Entity EP, are there any other exciting projects or collaborations on the horizon that you'd like to give our readers a glimpse of? Any upcoming musical ventures or creative endeavors that you're particularly enthusiastic about?

Shawn Ice: Yes, I have a lot of collaborations to release, featuring both young and established artists. Additionally, I'll be relaunching my clothing line in conjunction with other businesses under the 3rdazzz Ent umbrella. While I won't disclose too much for now, rest assured my supporters will be proud to identify as Shawn Ice fans.

BPM: What advice would you give to aspiring young artists who look up to you and are trying to make their mark in the music industry?
